Space is the biggest consideration when determining how large a hoop you can put in your outdoor playing area. (Read our last post, to better understand what sized hoop is the best for your outdoor space.)
But what if your space can handle a few different sized hoops and you’re undecided about which model you should get? Is it worth leveling-up and getting a more expensive model? And just what do I get when I upgrade? We get these questions a lot from our customers.
Level up or down?
Many times customers want to know the real difference between two Mega Slam basketball hoops and if the increase in price from one to the other is “worth it.” We always answer “of course it’s worth it!” but customers really need to know why.
So here’s break down some of the differences between our most popular models.
Level up to the Megaslam 72
Stepping up to the MegaSlam 72 for a few hundred more dollars means you get a lot more hoop for the upgrade.
More rigid. The MegaSlam 72 weighs 145lbs more than the MegaSlam 60 and adds two more inches of pole diameter with an 8”X 6” main pole. This alone makes for a much more rigid and pro-style play. Read more here why rigidity is good.
Pro backboard. Highschool, NCAAs, and Pros play on a regulation 72” wide backboard, which comes with the MegaSlam 72. Even though you might not think 12 extra inches of backboard width isn’t a big deal. It’s actually A BIG DEAL. The shot range and selection increase dramatically and if you plan on your kiddos playing in HS or college, this will be the sized backboard they will use.
180 Pro Rim (upgrade).
If you upgrade to a 180 Pro Rim on this model, then you’ll have an amazing rim that flexes in any direction with our multi-flex technology. The Hideaway Net feature also eliminates any dangerous net hooks so hands can slam all day without any problems.
Level up to the MegaSlam XL
This is our big daddy. Moving up to the MegaSlam XL, you’re getting the most pro features (which come standard) in this monster-sized hoop. Quite a move up from the 72.
More rigid. The Megaslam XL weighs 100lbs more than the 72 and adds a whopping 48 more square inches on it’s 12”X8” main pole. Add 14 gussets at the base and you have the most rigid hoop we make.
Pro backboard. The 72” wide backboard, which comes standard on the MegaSlam XL can make a huge difference in everyone’s game. The shot range and selection you can make increases dramatically in every game you play with 72 inches of backboard.
180 Pro Rim.
The 180 Pro Rim comes standard on this model. With it, you have an amazing rim that flexes in any direction with our multi-flex technology. The Hideaway Net feature also eliminates any dangerous net hooks so hands can slam all day without any problems.
